Snuff bottles have been produced in Quimper since the late 19th century. The small ceramic snuffs were made in a variety of forms. Tobacco was poured into the snuff through an opening, which was stopped with a piece of cork. All of these snuffs came from the Porquier faiencerie in the late 1800s. They are in excellent condition.

This 3" x 2˝" heart-shaped snuff shows the traditional Breton figure on one side and a contrasting red and blue pattern on the other. It has more depth than most snuffs, measuring 1˝" from front to back. The heart shape is noteworthy, as a snuff was sometimes offered by a young woman to her fiancé.
